Description: Choose From 100 to 500 Seeds~ OXALIS STRICTA~ Yellow Wood Sorrel Other common names: Lemon Clover, False Shamrock, Sourgrass Wild and harvested from plants growing around our fully organic gardens Harvested recently, in the Spring/Summer of 2024, so they have NOT been stratified. These seeds need cold MOIST stratification to optimize germination rates. To do this, put some sand (about a 1/3 cup or so) in a bowl and sprinkle in the seeds. Mix. Add enough water just to moisten the sand thoroughly. you don't want it to be soggy and over wet. Put into a ziplock baggy and then seal. Make sure to label the baggy with the name and date. Put in the coldest area of your refrigerator for 4 to 6 weeks. If you do not want to do this you can just scatter the seeds outside in fall, water in, cover with a thin layer of organic mulch and then water that too.... and just let them be..... they will emerge in Spring. Yellow Wood Sorrel is a VERY welcome wild edible in our gardens and many times they also end up with our potted plants. We have a lot of them around here, and I'm always happy to see them. This cheery little plant resembles clover with shamrock shaped leaves that open up during day, and close during the night. The blooms also close around dusk and begin opening up after sunrise. It grows wild in lots of places, particularly meadows, woodlands, and disturbed areas. It's a great beginner forager's plant because it is easy to identify, and....In addition to having a snappy, lemony flavor that is delicious, They are incredibly nutritious, and have quite a few medicinal properties that make them great for adding to recipes, salads, and teas. I like to eat the green seed pods which are super sour, right off of the plant as I go through the gardens. I bet they would be very good coated with sugar! Like an all natural sour patch kid. ALL parts of this plant are edible! But.... if you aren't lucky enough to already have these growing in your yard or garden, and you don't want to have to go out and forage for it, then just use these seeds, and grow your own!! It is a perennial up to zone 7 (tender perennial), and can be grown as an annual anywhere else. It has beautiful tiny yellow flowers which bloom all spring into early summer and then, if the summer gets consistently 85 degrees F and above, they will take a break and kind of go dormant, saving up their energy for a second round of blooming in fall. It will die back at frostGermination time: 10-21 daysPlanting Depth: Surface sow/Spread sand and seed mixture thinly over soil surface Sunlight: Direct or indirect (seeds), Full Sun or Partial Shade (plants) Can be Started indoors 6 weeks before last frost date and transplanted, or plant seeds in fall outdoorsPlant seeds or thin to 6 to 8" apart.
