Description: A vintage three section glass serving tray in the pattern “Forbidden Fruit” by Georges Briard offered by Snowdrift Antiques. Jakub Brojdo was born in Ukraine in 1917. He moved to the US and attended the Art Institute of Chicago. He put his art career aside during WWII to serve on the staff of General George Patton as a Russian interpreter. Afterwards, his art career blossomed with his works as a painter, which he signed “Brojdo”. However, it was his glass and ceramics (signed “Georges Briard”) that were wildly popular in the US from the 1950s-70s with their 22K gold accents and multi-color designs. The release of new Briard lines were a major event at Neiman-Marcus stores. In 2004 he received the Frank S Childs Lifetime Achievement Award for extraordinary contributions to glass and ceramic decorating. In 2005 he passed away at the age 88 in New York City. This Briard piece is the hard to find large 3 section glass snack/serving tray. It is in the pattern called “Forbidden Fruit”. It features geometric patterns with leaves in the classic Briard 22 K gold. It has the Georges Briard 22 K gold signature in the bottom right corner. This piece is from the 1960s. This piece measures 21 inches by 13 and stands 1 ½ inches high. It is slightly concave on each end. This tray is in excellent vintage condition. I see no signs of wear on it at all. The gold and the paint look as strong as the day it was made. I’m not sure it has ever been used. There are no nicks, chips or cracks. This is a beautiful glass tray, perfect for your mid-century dining space.
