Description: This gorgeous fairy doll is from my own collection. She is a bisque headed Ernst Heubach doll, on a five piece, composition body and she is 8 inches/ 20 cm tall Her head is marked HEUBACH KOPPLESDORF 250 17/2 GERMANY There are no chips or cracks to the bisque, but it is GRUBBY and Gluey ! There are two tiny insignificant flake wig pulls, one on her left ear, and a minute one on her right ear, from where her hair was pulled off perhaps to stuff her head, to stop her eyes moving in transit, NOT by me!! She has sleeping brown glass eyes, and a nice little wavy blonde mohair (I think), wig. She has a lovely fairy dress with an absolutely amazing skirt ! I'm not sure how it's been made, but it appears to be something I think was called " quilling". It appears to be made from tiny, firmly folded, strips of paper, that have been intertwined, linked together and woven through, with various fine silvery metal wires and metal threads. It is trimmed with a lovely blue silk ribbon and bow which is threaded through it, but some of the ribbon has gradually disintegrated over time. The skirt is fragile, but very very pretty. (The craft I am referring to, quilling, was very popular in the 1800s especially Victorian times.) The dress has a metallic lace bodice, with metallic tape straps and is trimmed with 1890s/1900 gold glass bugle beads Fairy doll has a gold metallic bugle bead necklace. She has a metallic tape and glass beaded headdress in a 1890/1900 evening style. She carries a dear little fairy wand, made of 'brass' wire and glass bugle beads. She has a white cotton puff sleeved blouse under the dress and I can just see that she has a white cotton petticoat and lace trimmed knickers. She has dear little wings made of an antique net stretched over a delicate wire frame and trimmed with a gold metal sequin on each wing. The net then trails down her skirt a bit to make two more wings, so she has four wings like a butterfly. NB Think me bonkers but I had to be sure this is antique net, so 20 odd years ago, I trimmed a tiny torn bit off the trails, and set light to it !! it flared and burnt me, and turned to ashes, it did not melt like nylon net would. Before I set it alight, I had tried to tear it and I could. I couldn't tear nylon net, so it is old, pre nylon, cotton net, like wedding veil.
