Description: English Pearlware Brushstroke Child's Miniature Teapot Staffordshire England c 1800 This early miniature children's teapot was originally part of an early child's miniature tea set. The little teapot stands 4-1/2 inches tall and measures 6 inches long with an original straight spout, gentle dome lid and applied handle. It is hand decorated with high temperature pratt enamel colors of cobalt blue, brown and ochre polychrome hand painted decoration on creamy earthenware, painted with a a band of orchid flower brushstroke design, finished with pearlware glaze. A lovely whimsical example of late 18th and early 19th century folk art. The piece was made in Staffordshire or possibly Leeds or Yorkshire in England. Typically, it is unmarked. One of the earliest wares intended for children to play with, used to instruct them in proper table manners or for a playtime tea party or simply to decorate a dollhouse table. The diminutive teapot is in overall great condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. Slight patina on the bottom. A wonderful early miniature in exquisite condition, elegant in its simplicity in a stunning earthy and whimsical pattern -- a fine miniature to add to any AAFA Americana advanced collection!The rare straight spout marks the age and scarcity of the piece.
