Description: This trap is marked in 2 places with the same mark - marked on the pan and on the bottom of the base - most likely the maker's mark. Marking is not 100%, but I am pretty sure it reads P. TUCKER. I don't have any info on this maker. The only possible lead I can find is that there was a Tucker blacksmith shop in Montgomery County, Maryland. I can't find any more details on this - more research might uncover more info. This trap shows the work of a better than average blacksmith - it has some artistic features: The jawposts are kind of heart shaped. The ears on the jaws are very nicely formed. The swivel on the center bottom of the base for attachment of the chain is uncommon. The springs are not an exact match, but if one of them was replaced it was done many decades ago - it still looks like they were made by the same maker. There are no signs that this trap was taken apart - there are no signs that the jawpost nuts have been turned in modern times. This listing is for the trap shown in the photos. Shipping only to any of the 50 U.S. states. This is an early trap. Based on the workmanship, it probably dates to the mid 1800s. Trap may have been made to trap beaver, although it is a little small for that - so more likely was made to trap smaller animals, such as fox, mink, muskrat, etc. This would be a nice trap to display with a collection of fur trade/mountain man era items. It is completely hand forged (hammered out by hand by a blacksmith.) No parts were made by machine. Trap is 17 1/4" long overall. Distance between jawposts is 6". The trap weighs a little over 2 pounds. Trap is original and complete, except for no chain. No modern repairs, such as welding. The springs on this trap are plenty strong - could still be used today. Surface of all parts is rusted, but not overly so. Keep in mind that this trap is most likely 150 to 200 years old. I only did a little cleaning where the markings are - will leave the rest up to you. Looks pretty good as is. Ask questions or request more photos if needed. Returns accepted with full refund if you are not satisfied. (You would need to pay return shipping.) Sorry, no sales to Canada or anywhere other than 50 U.S. states. HAPPY COLLECTING!
