Measures 30.25 by 20 inches, nicely matted and framed, and in good to very good condition with toning, staining, and tearing and small areas of paper loss primarily along the borders. ORIGINAL ENGRAVING OF “THE DEATH OF GENERAL MONTGOMERY IN THE ATTACK OF QUEBEC, DECR. 1775” ENGRAVED BY JOHANN FREDERICK CLEMENS AFTER TRUMBULL IN 1798 The engraving is based on the 1786 Revolutionary War painting by American painter John Trumbull depicting the death of General Richard Montgomery at the Battle of Quebec during the invasion of Quebec on December 31, 1775. General Montgomery served in the British Army, but, at the start of the American Revolution, he fought with the Continental Army leading the unsuccessful Battle of Quebec where he lost his life.
