The lid is hinged securely with two gold color piano-style hinges and stays securely shut with a powerful magnetic closing mechanism. Both the lid and the base hold inserts each of which is made to hold three certified coins. The wood box is lined with black felt behind the inserts. So, the one in the lid can be removed to make a three-coin display or left in to make a six-coin display. The black inserts provide contrast to the coins to be displayed while at the same time snugly holding the slabs in place.
