Description: The Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad (C&EI) was a regional railroad connecting Chicago, Illinois to Southern Illinois, St. Louis, and Evansville, Indiana. It operated between 1877 and 1976, when it was split with portions sold to the Louisville & Nashville Railroad and the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The Chicago Railroad Fair was an exposition, held in 1948-1949, to commemorate 100 years of railroad in Chicago; some 37 railroads participated in the Fair, to include the C&EI. For auction is a brochure from the C&EI promoting the Fair. The main attraction was a live spectacular titled "Wheels a-Rolling", which featured acts from the evolution of railroading. This brochure measures appx 9 x 3 3/4 inches unopened and opens to appx 17 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches. It is printed on a semi-glossy paperstock. This item is in very good condition, even considering that it is now some 65 years old. It has no writing or markings, no spills or smears; there is a small fold tear in the center where the four segments of the brochure have a common fold, but this is minor. There are no other rips or tears. Items of this vintage from the C&EI are few and far between, and some C&EI railfan will enjoy having this in his/her collection. Images sell!
