Description: This is a vintage original program for the movie The Jazz Singer starring Al Jolson at the Shubert Garrick Theatre in Chicago. This program is a four page pamphlet format measuring about 7.75” x 5.25”. This film was the first feature length film with both synchronized recorded music and lip-synchronous singing and speech which heralded the commercial ascendance of sound films and effectively marked the end of the silent film era. The front cover of the program reads: Warner Bros. Supreme Triumph AL JOLSON in “THE JAZZ SINGER” with VITAPHONE This program isn’t dated but I find newspaper refences to The Jazz Singer running at the Shubert Garrick Theatre in Chicago beginning in late 1927 after premiering In New York City on October 6, 1927. I believe this program is for that first run of The Jazz Singer in Chicago. This vintage original program shows moderate handling wear, a bit of dust staining and a few small nicks on the edges.
