After hiring him as the subeditor of the magazine a year earlier, Dickens bequeathed 'All the Year Round' to his eldest son Charles Dickens, Jr. ("Charles Dickens the younger" in the testament) one week before his death in June 1870. After Dickens's death, his son would own and edit the magazine from 25 June 1870 until the end of 1895 (or possibly just until 1888). Containing: October 2 1875-Christmas 1875 Volume XIX (August 11 1877 to January 19th 1878) Volume XX (January 26th to June 29th 1878) August 3rd 1878 to November 16th, 1878 Volume XII (December 21st 1878 to June 14th 1879) Volume XXIII (June 21st to November 22nd 1879) Volume XXIV (November 29 1879 to May 8th 1880) Volume XXV (May 15th-October 16th 1880) January 5th-April 26th 1884 with December 17th and 24th of 1881 Including the Christmas Numbers for 1875 (Davy's Locker), 1878 ('Twas in Trafalgar Square) 1881 (The Captain's Room), and the extra Summer number for 1878. CONDITION In original paper wraps. Externally, rather worn, with some loss to the paper, and handling marks. Some labels and closed tears also. Rear wrap to volume II. Ink signatures to front pastedowns. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Binding of the fifth volume is very tender. Pages are bright, though with some handling marks and some foxing.
